Volunteers from Times Square!

Times Square – long time partners of Somebody Cares have been steadily sending volunteers!

This afternoon the snow is coming down very hard in Staten Island!  As Terry and I sit in the comforts of an office area working to help local pastors and leadership with logistics and administrative support, we are amazed by God’s AWESOME people!

Not one person has allowed this weather to diminish their efforts as they race against time to help those impacted last week by Sandy and this week by the impending storm forecast to hit this region.

The work goes on….Long time partners and ambassadors of Somebody Cares America, Mark Roye, Mike Lynch and Bob Ball from Blood n’Fire and a great team of volunteers are out in the parking lot cooking some of the best chicken a person could ever eat!  Times Square Church – long time ministry partner of Somebody Cares has a huge group of volunteers that have come for the day stand in the open parking lot loading and unloading trucks and vans as they deliver and receive the much needed supplies!  The volunteer members of Christian Pentecostal Church here in Staten Island are just as busy today as they have been since Sandy blew through.  Volunteers here are seasoned….they have had a community food pantry that serves their community.  Pastor John Carlo is a PRECIOUS man of God – Dr. and former NYC Police Captain, he is a straight shooter and loads of fun to work with!

As Terry and I travel from place to place, we are BLESSED to make new friends and see old ones!  The Lord truly blesses us when we are obedient!

Please pray for the folks here on Staten Island today- many are without power still- some will be for not just a few days, but for MONTHS as they deal with shifted foundations, ruptured gas lines and other issues that we all pray no one ever would have to deal with!  You might ask, ”Why don’t they leave and go elsewhere”?  Where would they go!? Many of them are trying to hang on to the last of their personal belongings and looting is a problem.  Many of them don’t have family to go to and they haven’t found long term housing, which they all will need if they go.  This is a LONG TERM RECOVERY.  It will not happen quickly!
